Since I’m in a cheerful mood today because we just put Ricochet up for sale, I’m not going to launch into a blistering rant about Apple and how they seem to delight in making life difficult for people who write software for their silly operating system, despite how badly they deserve this rant. I’ll just say two things:
- It used to be that one of the strengths of the Macintosh was it was a fairly homogeneous environment, compared to the multi-vendor PC world. This is no longer the case. Now that we have Macs with two kinds of CPUs, and now that Apple has decided that there’s no problem with making radical internal changes to the operating system with every point release (despite their public assertion that they froze the API with the release of 10.3), building OS X software is a far more complicated undertaking than building software for Windows.
- If it weren’t for the situation described in (1), this product probably would have shipped at least a week ago.

I don’t know much about coding, but I always figured it must be easier to do for Windows since so many freeware is released this platform (not talking about RAD type stuff like SynthEdit/Synthmaker).
I mean, a lot of audio plug-in developers seem to release for Windows first, with Mac versions to follow in the next X months…
Anyway, congrats on the release.
