According to CNNMoney.com, Software Developer is #12 on the list of the Top 50 Jobs in America. Skipping past the boring stuff about money and opportunity, the Quality of life ratings give a “B” in each of Personal satisfaction, Job security, Future growth, and Low stress[sic–capitalization and lack thereof is theirs, not mine]. I bet that Personal satisfaction rating is higher among Software Developers such as myself who commute by walking down a flight of stairs and who get to work in old jeans and t-shirts while listening to their personal music collection and burning expensive Japanese incense.
However, Benefit to society gets only a “C” rating. What’s up with that? Software Developers are a huge benefit to society, no? I mean, you wouldn’t be reading this blog post and CNNMoney.com wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for Software Developers. And let’s not overlook all of those video games, eh?
