I’m having trouble with my dial-up connection. We’re fine and having a good time but I wasn’t able to post at all yesterday. The intent of this post is twofold: one, to see whether I can post at all this morning; two, to let everyone know not to panic if nothing new appears here for days on end. (If something were to go drastically wrong, we’d phone.)
It’s not technical difficulties, Adam – internet access while abroad, especially if you can’t read the language – that’s the game! I look at is a continually evolving on-line adventure game. Think of it like Second Life without avatars. I don’t want to spoil it for you, but sometimes it works if you unblock port 587 on your SMTP server. Whatever in the world that means! If you really want to have fun, get a scratch-off internet access card at the Lawton’s or 7-11 (bonus for Hello Kitty card from a 7-11 “Hello Kitty Department Store”) and see if you can log on at a coffee shop. Guaranteed to be hours of “adventure.”
Actually I think that I have it narrowed down to a bug in the offline blogging software that I use. It’s timing out when I try to upload a post with photos. There’s a timeout parameter in its settings but changing that doesn’t seem to help. I think that the author has never actually tested his code with a slow connection. Email works fine so it’s not the SMTP port being blocked.
