Thanks to Richard, I’m now the proud owner of an old spring reverb, specifically a TASCAM RS-20 Spring Reverb. He warned me that there seems to be something wrong with the input circuits but I’ve been too busy to even plug the thing in to check it out. Thanks for posting the link to the Tascam RS-20 service manual for the Tascam RS-20 spring reverb. I found an RS-20 at a second hand store, without its case screws, so something may be wrong – in which case the Tascam RS-20 service manual may come in handy.
Mine turned out to have a somewhat strange mechanical problem. There’s a lever protruding from the back panel that moves a damping assembly against the springs. You’re supposed to engage this damper before shipping the thing so that the springs don’t flap around. On my unit, the mechanism that moves the damper had broken, and the damper was jammed hard against the springs.
