I Want This Man’s Job

I won’t attempt to explain why I find this so amusing, but there’s a great page here of videos of someone demonstrating his company’s blender by putting all sorts of things into it which are generally considered unfit for blender consumption. I particularly like the one which is titled as involving a crowbar, but actually shows the destruction of four cell phones.

More Snow!

It started snowing again at about 4:00PM. It’s too soon to tell whether or not it’s going to amount to anything, but it is coming down steadily. We’re definitely going to have a white Christmas!

More Blizzard Photos Up

We just posted more photos of the snow here. It continued to snow through the night and for awhile this morning. I said in a previous entry that Denver got the worst of it, but that turned out not to be the case. The official measurement for Boulder seems to be 34 inches, which is much more than the largest figure I’ve seen for Denver.

This is by far the most snow I’ve seen in Boulder since I started living here in 1983. CNN’s coverage said something about this being the worst storm since 2003, but as far as Boulder is concerned this storm much bigger than any recent snowfall. read more

The Blizzard Continues

It’s 10:45PM as I write this, and it’s still snowing. I don’t know what the official measurement for Boulder is but it’s easily up to my knees in front of the house. This is certainly the heaviest snowfall I’ve seen here. I’ll put up some more pictures tomorrow.

Blizzard!

As you may have seen on the news, Colorado is getting a lot of snow today. Denver is getting the worst of it (as usual) but we’re getting quite a lot here in Boulder. I’ve put up some photos in the photo gallery here and will probably put up more tomorrow. I’ve also taken some video footage [is it still called footage?] which I’ll try to edit down and post in some manner.

NASA TV Amazes Me

As I write this, I’m watching NASA TV live coverage of the astronauts trying to free the stuck solar panels on the ISS. The broadcast is switching back and forth between the helmet-mounted cameras on the astronauts’ suits and the station’s cameras. I’m trying to imagine what it would be like to be perched on the end of the robotic arm extended from the space station, trying to concentrate on freeing a stuck piece of lord-knows-how-expensive hardware while cruising along in space miles above the Earth. I’ve decided that I can’t really imagine it. read more

Silly Holiday Animation

If you’ve been on the web for more than a year or two, you’ve probably already seen the animated snow globe with the little people running around in it. It still makes me chuckle. Click here to see it.

Brrrr!

It’s been cold here. The low last night was 4 degrees F. The temperature graph for the last 24 hours is kind of fun:weathercgi.png

Wow! Wasn’t That Exciting?

I really don’t follow politics at all, but yesterday was certainly an exciting day. I’ve been waiting for the last bit of good news to be confirmed, and the NY Times just did so: “Allen Concedes in Virginia Senate Race; Democrats Win Full Control of Congress”. How about that. The Democrats have control of the House and the Senate. Finally we have some light at the end of a dark tunnel.

It’s also really cool that, for the first time ever, the Speaker of the House is a woman. read more
